Cups Day is our annual club championship that runs in August. It’s a month-long round robin that covers 40+ categories across all ages and includes both singles and doubles draws. The final match for each category is played on Cups Day – the last Saturday in August before the Labour Day weekend. The Southampton Tennis Club season wraps up with the presentation of trophies to all Cups Day participants at the Beach courts. In a salute to those who demonstrate our core values, we also present special awards for courtesy, improvement, sportsmanship and excellence in teaching.
In addition to the usual doubles categories for boys and girls, women and men, and mixed, the STC has distinctive family-friendly pairings including parent and child, father and son, mother and daughter, sister and sister, brother and brother, even grandparent and grandchild. Read more about the list of categories and age requirements.
The sign-up sheets and a full listing of rules are posted at the Beach clubhouse just prior to the civic holiday in August. All matches are self-managed so once the draw sheets are up for each category, it’s up to each team/individual to arrange their matches and play them by the posted deadlines.
If playing competitive tennis isn’t your thing but you enjoy watching good sport, take a seat on the deck or the bleachers, or bring your own lawn chair like so many of our members do. The community spirit of the STC comes alive in the quality of play and the social atmosphere.
