Cups Day
Cups Day is our annual club championship that runs in August.

Affectionately known as ‘Cups’, this three-week tournament includes over 40
categories across all age groups. The majority of final matches for each
category are played on one day—Cups Day—a family and community-oriented
event on the last Saturday in August before the Labour Day weekend.
The day wraps up with our club Cups trophy presentations at the Beach
Courts. Match winners and runners-up receive awards, as do selected
recipients for Courtesy & Improvement, Excellence in Teaching, Sportsmanship, and more.

In addition to the usual singles and doubles categories, STC has distinctive
family-friendly pairings including Parent & Child, Mother & Daughter, Father &
Son, Sister & Sister, Brother & Brother, Spouse & Spouse, Grandparent &
Grandchild.

STC COMPETITIVE PHILOSOPHY FOR ‘A’ AND ‘B’ SERIES’ AND FAMILY EVENTS

In all STC events, including Cups Day and Round Robins, we aim to uphold the club
philosophy of Family, Fun, & Fair Play and encourage everyone eligible to experience
and enjoy competition, no matter the skill level. Cups Day is not a provincially
sanctioned tournament but rather our club tournament founded on these principles.
When signing up for events, please honour the club philosophy. Stronger players
should play in our stronger events, which are the ‘A’ Series or Open events.

In Cups, we have ‘A’ Series U12 Singles events and an ‘A’ Series Parent & Child event.
We also offer Adult Mixed Doubles which is our ‘A’ mixed event.

‘B’ Series events were created for less skilled juniors and adults and includes categories
listed as ‘B’ Series as well as Spouse & Spouse. When an individual or pair gets to the
finals or wins a ‘B’ Series event, they are deemed ‘stronger’ and capable of competing
at a higher level. The next season these competitors should enter ‘A’ Series events.
Examples:

-
Spouse & Spouse finalists should move to a Mixed Doubles category the following year.
-
Parent & Child ‘B’ finalists should move to ‘A’ Series the following year.

Parent & Child events are intended as inclusive, family, mixed doubles categories for
only those not meeting the criteria of Mother & Daughter or Father & Son.

Application of Rules will be done at discretion of the Cups Committee which will defer to
Tennis Canada’s Rules of the Court as sanctioned by the ITF.
